Bridge to AA

ILAA (International Lawyers in Alcoholics Anonymous) acts as a bridge to mainstream Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) for legal professionals. The organization is over 50 years old and holds regular conferences and weekly meetings.

A Safe and Confidential Space

ILAA offers a confidential environment where legal professionals—including lawyers, judges, and law students—can work on their recovery with peers who understand their specific need for a high level of privacy. Because lawyers, much like doctors and pilots, often face unique professional and personal challenges, ILAA provides a safe space for them to address their alcoholism.

A Bridge to Recovery

ILAA meetings follow the 12 steps of AA, and its members are recovering alcoholics, but it is not an official AA group because AA does not create membership categories based on profession. Instead, ILAA is closely aligned with AA and operates on the same core principles of the 12-step program.

The organization aims to help legal professionals who may be reluctant to attend a regular AA meeting, providing them with a path to recovery that can eventually “bridge” to mainstream AA.

And until then, they can carry the message of hope and Recovery to other alcoholics, some of whom might be legal professionals.
